BURN {bûrn] -
1a. to consume fuel and give off heat, light, and gases b. to contain a fire c. to mark by heat, light or fire
2a. to transform by exposure to heat or fire

BURN student ministries desires to do just that, burn. As a community of students trying to live more like Christ, this idea of burning helps us in this journey, and we identify three major ideas of burning and the Christian life.

>BURN to SHINE. In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus tells us that we as Christians are the light of the world, and that we are to shine in this world, not hide. We can’t do this apart from God. John 1 tells us that Jesus came into this world as the light and that light is our life. We don’t burn on our own, we burn because of who Christ is, and His presence in our lives. With the power of that light in us, we are able to shine.

>BURN to be CONSUMED. Hebrews 12 tells us that our God is a consuming fire. When we devote our lives to God, When God consumes us, He purifies us and makes us Holy, He swallows up, He consumes, He burns up all our pride, our greed, our jealousy, our bitterness, our anger, our self-righteousness, even our dreams, our hopes, and our visions for ourselves. The difference between being a consumer and being consumed is that being consumed by God means that your life is spent in pursuit of His will for His glory. To be a consumer means you believe God’s will is your happiness and your Glory.

>BURN to leave our MARK. One of the amazing things about fire is that it’s irreversible. You can’t undo something that’s already been burnt. When God consumes our life, we will never be the same. Hopefully when our lives are spent on the things of God, this world will be different. We will have made a change and left our mark because of Christ in us. Isaiah 58-8-10 describes what this life looks like and encourages us to spend our lives making marks for the right things.

Come and BURN with us...
